Can you say "tongue & cheek" title?...as Monday, September 21st was to be our first official day to start homeschooling, yet PandaGirl came downstairs at 4:15 this morning with a fever of 103.2 and gunk in her throat.
Lovely.
Wasn't sure if it was strep or pig flu and wouldn't be able to find out until after noon when the acute care clinic opened.
BTW: this picture was taken a few days ago. She did not look this cute this morning. Nor did all the other icky-sicky kiddos that came into the weekend clinic. Can I just say a H-U-G-E THANK YOU to all weekend medical workers?!!! We walked in the door as soon as it was unlocked along with some VERY sick children. I wanted PG and I to wear one of those astronaut looking suits that the contaminated/poison/bomb helper people don before entering a deadly zone. I am not a germ-a-phobe, but at the clinic....I was. Especially, when the mom and dad bring in their three kids with barf bags in hand and all three children ranging in age from about 5 to 10 look green and are bent over with scrunched up eyebrows. Poor things. They were on vacation. Ouch.
Where's the Lysol
and masks and hand-sanitizer????
and masks and hand-sanitizer????
Thankfully, there are no pigs involved...except for the yummy ham, potato and cheese crock pot dish I had cooking all morning...and so far the culture didn't prove strep, but the doc will send it to another lab with more equipment to test for it. PG is on an antibiotic just in case, but we caught it soon enough if it is.
Needless to say, our original educational plans are not going to work out, but I am thankful for the flexibility of our homeschool. Smile.
I'm so sorry to read that you have a nasty bug in your house. Poor Pandagirl. I'm praying that no one else gets it and her recovery is speedy quick!! Some of my closest adoptive friends homeschool. I see a trend here...
ReplyDeletePS. I'm loving the pumpkin blog header too!
Big,(far away)hugs to the PG. Stay healthy Teacher-Mom!!

ReplyDeleteOn these days, just do the stay in bed and read all day "curriculum"! I am so excited for you guys! Feel better soon, PG! And mom, stay well!, dad, too!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that you guys are HS!Isn't it so nice to be able to take care of your sick little one with out being stressed of a schedule being messed up! Just wait when the weather gets yucky and you get to stay in!
ReplyDeleteHS is the way to go- Who ever spends the most time with our children gain the influence. I so can't wait to get that influence back myself- we would be burned at the stake if we attempted it in our current surroundings=) Glad to hear your pressing thru-it is the right thing to do. Get in a HS Co-op- especially when it comes to group classes & fitness activites etc.. It helps surrounding yourselves with others like you & playmates with same lifestyle.
